Medicare, a federal insurance scheme for certain disabled people as well as who are 65 and older. The scheme also includes End-Stage Renal Disease i.e. permanent kidney failure requiring transplant or dialysis and there are some rewards that have been included by President Joe Biden who are using this insurance program.
The president of America has announced that the makers of all of the first 10 prescription medicines chosen for Medicare’s first price negotiations have agreed to participate, may get ready for lowering the costs of medicines in coming years and provide him a potential political win before next year’s election.
Medicare’s First 10 Drug List-
Over 3.7 million Medicare beneficiaries used the blood thinner Eliquis between June of last year and May of this year, claims the White House. For 2022, each enrollee’s average out-of-pocket expense for the medication was $608. A further 1.6 million Medicare beneficiaries used the diabetes medication Jardiance, which had an out-of-pocket expense per beneficiary of $490 in 2022.
The White House said, 9 million seniors and other Medicare recipients spent more than $3.4 billion on just these 10 medicines last year.
Joe Biden said, “For decades, drug companies in America made record profits while big pharma worked to block Medicare from being able to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors. In fact, Americans now pay two to three times more than people in other countries for the exact same prescription drug made by the exact same company. So, my administration finally took a step to change that.”

We don’t yet know how much costs will drop. Prices for the initial batch of eligible medications won’t go into effect until 2026.
