Citigroup has lifted its 12-month price forecasts for Bitcoin and Ether as activity in the cryptocurrency market shows signs of strengthening. The bank now expects Bitcoin to reach $113,000 over the next year, compared with its previous estimate of $82,000. Its forecast for Ether has also increased to $3,028 from $2,240.
The revised Citi Bitcoin forecast comes as investor interest returns to digital assets, supported by renewed exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows and improving market conditions.
Citi Increases Its Crypto Price Targets
Citi’s latest projections represent a significant increase in its expectations for the two leading cryptocurrencies. The bank raised its Bitcoin target by $31,000, while its Ether forecast increased by $788.
The changes reflect stronger activity in the crypto market and expectations that investment flows could remain positive during the coming year. Citi estimates that cryptocurrency markets could receive around $5 billion in additional inflows over the next 12 months.
These flows could provide further support for Bitcoin and Ether if investors continue increasing their exposure to digital assets.
ETF Demand Returns to the Market
The recovery in cryptocurrency activity has been accompanied by renewed interest in crypto-linked ETFs. After a period of weaker flows, investors have started returning to these products, providing another source of demand for major digital assets.
Citi expects ETF inflows to continue, although at a more measured pace. The bank highlighted increasing allocations from financial advisers and brokerages as an important factor behind the expected demand.
The recent performance of Bitcoin and Ether has also contributed to the change in sentiment. Bitcoin has climbed about 40% from its recent low, while Ether has gained around 68% from its recent bottom.
A Softer Dollar Supports Risk Appetite
Broader financial conditions are also playing a role in the cryptocurrency market. Citi pointed to a weaker U.S. dollar as one factor supporting Bitcoin’s recent recovery.
The softer dollar followed moves by the U.S. Treasury to buy back longer-dated government bonds. Changes in currency and bond markets can influence investor appetite for alternative assets, including cryptocurrencies.
For digital asset investors, the combination of stronger market activity and changing macroeconomic conditions has helped improve sentiment.
Regulation Remains in Focus
Cryptocurrency regulation continues to influence market expectations. The U.S. Senate recently failed to move forward with the Clarity Act, a proposed framework for regulating digital assets.
The setback created uncertainty around efforts to establish clearer rules for the industry. However, later announcements from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission helped ease some concerns among market participants.
Regulatory developments are likely to remain an important factor for investors as policymakers continue discussions around the future structure of the digital asset market.
Citi’s Updated Outlook for Bitcoin and Ether
Citi’s revised forecasts highlight the growing importance of ETF flows, investor allocations, economic conditions and regulatory developments in determining cryptocurrency market activity.
The bank’s expectation of roughly $5 billion in crypto inflows over the next year provides a key factor behind its higher price targets. Still, cryptocurrency prices can change quickly as market conditions and investor demand shift.
With Bitcoin and Ether recovering from recent lows, Citi’s updated projections offer a fresh view of the potential direction of the two largest digital assets over the coming 12 months.
